That is not true. Self-compiled stuff always goes to /usr/local . If you want to use self-compiled plugins with a Pidgin that was installed by your package manager you indeed have to adjust the PREFIX.

<a href="#comment-1005" rel="nofollow">@Chong Tang </a>
I have corrected this problem. The default destination is wrong, the right installation directory is /usr/lib/pidgin/

Thank you! You are right. I have do the "make" and "make install" successfully. But how should I use it? There are still only four option in Buddies/Sort Buddies.

I'm trying to install it in Fedora 16 Alpha. The input of command "pidgin --version" is "Pidgin 2.10.0-3.fc16 (libpurple 2.10.0)".
But when I execute ./configure, it output "configure: error: pidgin >= 2.5.2 required!".
Anybody know why???

It's the first time I heard that it doesn't work with recent versions. It works for me but of course I don't use all possibilities.

Please file a ticket on https://bugs.launchpad.net/pidgin-extended-blist-sort .

Thank you.

I think it doesn't work with 2.7.5. That's why I still use 2.6.6.
By the way, when is this plugin gonna work for recent versions? =)
